Overview: Urdoc is a concept app designed to simplify the process of taking care of you. At urdoc you'll be able to quickly contact your physician without any intermediaries or complex forms. Just a simple, and brutal, chat. Healthcare sector is experiencing one of the most important transformations thanks to AI. According to McKinsey & Company, "The surge in the use of AI healthcare tools is likely to prompt a shift away from point solutions.", and this means technology is now, more than ever, critical to the sector.

Project Goals:

  1. Usability: Create an easy to use app to book a medical appointment, start a chat with your physician and track next medical appointments.

  2. Next Level Communication: Urdoc app aims to break one of the most pressing issues of healthcare: communicate with your physician. Doctors who use the app won't have to give their phone number to communicate with patients as this is quietly handed through urdoc.io app.

  3. Increase User Engagement: Implement features that encourage users to interact more with the app, leading to increased medical appointments and overall satisfaction.

Research: This project started with extensive user research that included interviews (10) and an extensive competitor analysis. Our research allowed us to confirm a set of assumptions that helped us to ship the final project.

  • Everyone at a certain point in their lives already used an app to book medical appointments;

  • Users prefer to use this app with their smartphone rather than a desktop;

  • Physicians don’t have public reviews so that users can make better decisions;

  • Users want to have access to medical exams through the app;

  • Our research allowed us to take very important takeaways such as:

  • We must humanize the physicians;

  • Physicians should be accountable by the way they treat their patients;

  • The booking process is a mess with several unnecessary communications between patient and hospital;

  • An app makes easy to manage appointments (due +’ future);

  • A great feature would be the possibility to talk with the physician quickly;

Design Process:

1. Ideation and Wireframing: Based on the research insights, initial wireframes were designed to create the app's navigation and simplify the user journey.

2. User Flows: User flows were established to visualize the ideal paths users would take to book an appointment with the users' preferred physician. This helped identify potential bottlenecks and opportunities for optimization.

3. UI Design: With the user flows in place, the UI design phase began. I opted for a fun and simple icons, a relaxed sans-serif font — Dongle —, and a traffic light system to help the user clearly understands availability of the doctor. In order to assist the user to quickly and, in conscience, select the best physician we added a rating system that is available in every doctor profile.

4. Interactive prototyping: Interactive prototypes were developed using Figma. This step allowed stakeholders to experience

5. User Testing and Iteration: The interactive prototype was subjected to usability testing with real users. For this I've conducted remotely 12 usability tests, with heatmap, that allowed me to confirm if the user flow originally designed was viable.

Results: The redesigned UrbanHelp app witnessed remarkable improvements:

  1. Increased satisfaction: The overall feedback from users that tested the prototype was positive regarding the booking feature, doctor profile, and ratings

Chat feature: Users reported that would be far more easy to reach out to the doctor, if needed, if they had a feature within the app that allowed them to quickly connect them to the doctor; hence, we added this feature to the original prototype.

Conclusion: The design of urdoc demonstrated the value of user-centered design by investing time into research. This research allowed us to understand what are users' painpoints in this type of apps
